Escalator Update May 2018

The escalator division has continued work at major projects throughout London during the Spring of 2018.

Following completion of 3 main drive shaft replacements at Waterloo the installation and commissioning of E4, E5 and E6 has continued apace. Escalators 4 and 5 are now fully powered up and our engineers have begun testing, completing mechanical tests up to and including a 4-step gap inspection. E6 Cable Management System and wiring works are due for completion mid-May and final commissioning works shortly after.

As always well done to the engineers led by Ricardo and Mick for an excellent installation.

The second round of Main drive works commenced at Tottenham Court Road during March and the engineers, now very experienced with the process, have already completed a full replacement and return to service of E9. Following return to passenger service of E9, E8 was hoarded off and taken out of service for works to commence. With works well underway on this unit Ortons hope to have it up and running again towards the end of May.

Critically Ortons took on a tricky job at Tottenham Court Road during April, the removal and replacement of a worm gearbox from an in service E12. These works have been attempted by others previously with none successful, however our team led by Jason and Ricardo were able to complete a full replacement inside 12 hours! Fantastic work by all involved!

Following a number of excellent works from our engineers on Otis jobs we have begun to complete more rechains and repair works at Westfield, Selfridges and Harrods, with more due over the course of May and June.
